20 Most Popular Emojis Customers Use In Support Interactions

Life would not be the same without emojis. Though they’re not recognized as an official language (yet), we can confirm that it’s a second language for most support agents.

Emojis for support — meaning

Emojis can be used in support interactions to make the conversation friendlier and show that you understand your customers and care about their experience.

Luckily, customers use emojis, too. But we all need to be careful and use them the right way, depending on the context, the customer’s tone of voice, and what they’re asking about. The most important thing is to “mimic” your customer and communicate with empathy, regardless of the emoji use.

Klaus uses happy emojis in support interactions.

Top 11 customer support emojis — used by agents

#1

The face of a happy customer service agent triumphs. Goodness wins. The world is a better place thanks to you, shiny happy support folks.

#2

The friendly hand wave — that says “I’m here to help” without a single word — is the second most popular emoji used by agents. Thanks for always being in the right place at the right time for us.

#3

The thumbs-up emoji has success written all over it. Agents got our back; they’re on it, fixing the world around us, letting us know when the issue is solved. They’re the true thumbs-up people.  Here’s a thumbs up for you, too: ?

#4

Switching over to email? You’re about to get proper white-glove treatment. Based on the high 4th place this emoji achieved, we can sleep peacefully at night, knowing that agents are taking their jobs seriously. Cases are escalated to deliver the best possible results.

#5

Did you forget to plug in the device? Cat ran over the keyboard and locked you out? Copied your shopping list to the support email instead of the error message? Thanks for these funny incidents that make agents giggle.

#6

Agents love us! But to avoid crossing any boundaries, they often prefer to express it with a yellow heart – the symbol of liking and friendship.

#7

Agents using the slightly smiling face are either saying that everything’s cool – or they’re being slightly ironic behind that grimace. But hey, always assume good intentions, right? ?

#8

Celebrate good times delivered to you by remarkable customer service! Fixed, released, solved, and closed. Boom, tada, confetti, please!

#9

The good old pointing finger directing you to the right answers since the beginning of time. The finger of the ancient philosopher, medieval scholar, new-age teacher, mom and dad – making a comeback in the form of emoji and shooting straight to the top 11 support emoji.

#10

Oops! The agent would now like to hide away and disappear; it looks like something’s messed up. Somewhat surprisingly, we find the first emoji hinting at difficult cases from as late as place number 10. Things aren’t bad after all.

#11

What do you do when “thank you,” “I love you,” and “❤️” are not enough? Add some sparkle to it!

Do customers and agents “speak” the same emojis, though? We’ve looked into anonymized data about emoji use in our customers’ global support interactions to understand how people use emojis to express their emotions when talking to support agents.

Top 11 customer support emojis — used by customers

To avoid sounding unprofessional or overly sarcastic, opt for these most popular emojis used in communication with support agents:

#1

You get a star, you get a star, everyone gets a star! This emoji is the most popular way of expressing one’s gratitude towards a helpful agent.

#2

A sincere smile indicates customer satisfaction. What else could one hope for? Well done, everybody, it’s the second most popular emoji among customers.

#3

We love you, too. And, yet, we hope that you will never have to reach out to our customer service again. Because we love you.

#4

Sometimes you can’t get the feature you were requesting, and sometimes it takes time to fix an issue. We’re sorry that the sobbing emoji ranks so high. We’re doing our best.

#5

The thumbs-up emoji deserves the Word Saver of the Year Award. “Thanks for fixing the issue”, “Sure, I’ll send you more details after I’ve finished grooming my cat”, “I’ll be happy to hop on a screen-sharing call with you and my grandma” — all of these words are unnecessary when you have a 👍.

#6

Thanks for bringing light into the most complex (but also the most tedious) cases, the emoji of hope and gratitude.

#7

You’re totally screwed or absolutely nailing it. Let’s hope that the tears of joy come from agents’ witty responses and exceptional taste in GIFs.

#8

About half of the population uses this slightly smiley emoji to express positive emotions like contentment and happiness (some even laughing?!), while the other half senses a passive-aggressive undertone in this face. We’re glad it’s number 8 on the list.

#9

Yay, you’ve made the customer smile (with teeth)! That’s genuinely a good sign.

#10

We totally get you! Agents who deliver excellent customer care are absolutely lovable. This emoji deserves a place in the top 10 for sure.

#11

This disappointed emoji is often the most difficult one to face. The customer is not angry (so you can’t argue), they’re not sad (no use of condoling) – they are disappointed. And that’s hard to fix. Sorry.

Customer support interactions would be dull without emojis

A customer support interaction without any emojis feels less personal and emotional. Thank you, emojis, for saving us from this terrible fate!
